NDE Begins Training Of Unemployed Persons In Nasarawa

The National Directorate of Employment, (NDE), has commenced three months intensive training for 25 unemployed persons in Nasarawa on Community-Based Business Training Scheme (CBBTS) to make them self employed and employers of labour.

Mr Chris Bamsida, the State Coordinator of the agency, disclosed this today at the flagging off/orientation ceremony for the selected 25 participants of CBBTS in Doma Local Government Area of the state.

Bamsida said the training was designed at identifying functional skills and activities with comparative advantage in the selected communities in the state.

“Imparting skills that are business-oriented to unemployed community persons, establishing self employment amongst the grassroot unemployed persons and creating impacts within the community.

“Understanding the local realities and identifying and building on strengths, resources, and relationships that exist within communities,”he said.

The state coordinator said the community based business training would create community involvement in deciding, designing and delivering programme.

“And this will build ownership and inclusion in jobs creation in our communities.

“The beneficiaries were selected to undergo 3 months intensive skills training in traditional thread weaving, black smithing and aluminum pot making in Galadima and Madaki communities of Doma LGA in the State,” he added.

Bamsida said the beneficiaries would be incentivised by empowering them with monthly stipends of N2,000 during the three months training period.

“While N3,000 monthly training fee per participant shall be paid to their trainers.

“The sum of N300 also will be made available for consumables per participant.

“To enable each beneficiary establish his or her business, the sum of N25,000 will be disbursed as soft loan upon completion of the skills training and the conduct of basic business training,” he said.

According to him, “competent community-based trainers that understand your challenges are carefully selected and engaged in the training exercise to ensure you get the best skills”.

The state coordinator urged the participants to be committed and disciplined during the training.

“I urge you to be disciplined and note that absenteeism without cogent reasons will not be tolerated,” he said.

Bamsida noted that, to curtail problems of business failure associated with small scale business operation, one week basic business training in the last week will be conducted.

“To equip the participants with necessary business skills that will make them understand market scene, be self employed and employers of labour in Doma community of Nasarawa state,” he said

Bamsida called on individuals, NGOs, government at various levels as well as international agencies to collaborate with the directorate to eliminate the monster tagged “unemployment” in communities.

He appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for creating an enabling environment for the directorate to actualise her vision of  “Jobs For All” in communities of the State.

“I appreciate the NDE Director-General,  Mall. Nuhu Fikpo, for always considering Nasarawa in programmes implementation, the state looks forward for more considerations,”he said. 

Also Speaking, Arc. Ahmed Sarki Usman, the Executive Chairman, Doma LGA, appreciated NDE for its continued commitment in tackling unemployment in the state.

The Chairman, who was represented by Mr Garba Umar, Liason Officer, NDE Doma LGA, assured NDE of effective collaboration in order to train youths and other people of the area in different skills.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Mohammed Abdulrahman, appreciated NDE for the gesture and promised to be disciplined during and after the training.
