As Nigeria prepares to bury former President Muhammadu Buhari, contrasting scenes played out between his residences in Kaduna and Daura.
In Kaduna, his home along Sultan Road remained calm and heavily secured on Sunday. Armed personnel turned journalists away, with no visible signs of public mourning or visitors.
In contrast, Buhari’s hometown of Daura began receiving sympathisers from within and outside the state on Sunday evening, shortly after news of his death broke.
A family member, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that the remains would arrive overnight for burial on Monday.
“We are expecting the body overnight. You can call later, but journalists are not allowed access for now,” he said.
In Katsina city, groups of residents gathered in prayer and reflection, while the state government and traditional leaders prepared to receive mourners.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, in a statement by its Chairman, Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, described Buhari as “a humble leader with strategic patience and strong moral character.”
