The Southwest Zone of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has elected Alhaji Musliu Akinsaya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, as the union’s new National President.
The election took place during the Quadrennial Delegate Conference held at the union’s Zonal Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State.
Delegates from four states — Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti — participated in the election.
The acting National President, Aliyu Issa-Ore, oversaw the conference and emphasized that the union’s constitution grants each zone the right to elect and present its candidate for the national presidency to the National Secretariat.
Mrs. Adedamola Salam, the Head of Finance from the National Headquarters in Abuja, who represented the National President confirmed that the Southwest zone adhered to the union’s constitutional requirements in electing MC Oluomo as the President.
In addition to MC Oluomo’s election, the delegates elected Tajudeen Agbede as the Vice President for the Southwest Zone and Akeem Adeosun as a trustee from the region.
During his oath-taking ceremony, MC Oluomo called for unity and peace among members, emphasizing his commitment to preserving the union’s integrity.
He expressed a desire for reconciliation, stating, “I have forgiven everyone who offended me and hope those I may have wronged can also forgive me. This is our union, and we must work together to protect our source of livelihood from any threats.”
