The Edo State Police Command has arrested a man, Theophilus Osazuwa, for allegedly killing his four-year-old son, Testimony Osazuwa, while reportedly under the influence of hard drugs.
In a statement released on Wednesday night, the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed the tragic incident, which occurred on Tuesday at Osazuwa’s residence in Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road, Benin City.
According to Yamu, the suspect fell into a trance, repeatedly shouting “Holy Ghost fire” before violently slamming his son against the wall. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the child was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The suspect was said to have arrived at his home on 24/12/2024 at about 12:30 p.m., went berserk, screaming ‘Holy Ghost fire,’ then reached for the four-year-old boy and slammed him to the wall. The child was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival,” Yamu said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, known for consuming illicit substances, may have been under their influence at the time of the incident.
The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
