
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced a full investigation into the suspected murder of a 45-year-old man, Mr. Udeme Sunday Uko, who was found dead inside a church in Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, while the deceased, his wife, and their children were reportedly sleeping inside the church premises located in Ikot Oku Usung village.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, the Command said it was alerted by concerned residents after the victim’s wife raised the alarm.
“Akwa Ibom State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the suspected murder of Mr. Udeme Sunday Uko, who was found in a pool of blood while sleeping with his family inside a church,” the statement read.
According to the PPRO, a gunshot was heard around 12:10 a.m., and the victim was later found with a bullet wound to the head, suggesting a possible suicide or an armed attack.
A locally made pistol was recovered at the scene by officers who were promptly dispatched to the location following the report.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
DSP John assured the public that the police will deploy all necessary resources to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring any culprits to justice.
She further stated that the Command would continue to update the public as the investigation progresses.
