Man Arraigned Over Alleged Shop Breaking, Stealing In Ekiti

A 30-year-old man, Owolabi Sunday, was arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing.

Sunday, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Moyosola Adesola, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 20 at about 0025hrs at No 30 Unesi Street, Odo-Ado in Ado-Ekiti.

Adesola alleged that the defendant broke into the shop of one Kayode Faniki and stole MTN recharge card valued at N2,000 and cash sum of N8,000 belonging to the complainant.

According to her, the offences contravenes Sections 324 and 302 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

She urged the court to adjourn the case to enable her to study the case file and assemble her witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Mr Paul Ayantoyinbo, urged the court to grant his client bail with the promise that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Franca Olaiya, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case till June 26 for hearing.
