In a move to win back customers and boost subscription numbers, MultiChoice Nigeria has slashed the price of its DStv decoder by 50 percent — from N20,000 to N10,000.
The pay-TV company said the new pricing is part of efforts to make its services more affordable and accessible to more Nigerians.
Speaking on the development, the Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe, said the price slash is also a way to appreciate loyal customers and deliver more value.
“We want our customers to know they are appreciated and deserve access to premium entertainment every day. The ‘We Got You’ campaign is aimed at making our content more reachable and showing that DStv has something for everyone — not just football lovers,” he stated in a press release on Tuesday.
Ugbe added that MultiChoice is repositioning DStv as a daily source of value and entertainment, offering a wide range of programmes across various categories such as movies, series, children’s content, and news.
According to him, “This means more channels, more shows, and more reasons to stay connected every day.”
In addition to the price slash, the company also introduced a limited-time offer where active subscribers who renew their current package in full between June 16 and July 31, 2025, will automatically be upgraded to the next package level at no extra cost.
The company explained that both the price reduction and free upgrade offer are part of its response to the current economic realities affecting many Nigerians.
This development comes as MultiChoice reported a drop of 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025. Industry watchers link this decline to rising competition and customer dissatisfaction.
During the same period, MultiChoice reviewed subscription rates for both DStv and GOtv on three occasions — in April 2023, November 2023, and April 2024 — with the latest increase taking effect from May 1, 2024.
