The member representing Ekiti North Constituency 1, comprising Ikole and Oye Local Government Areas of Ekiti State and House Spokesman/Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Akin Rotimi Junior, has distributed 3,000 bags of rice and cash gifts to the people of his constituency which was described as first of its kind in the area.
While addressing journalists, the lawmaker said the motive behind the gesture was to support food security which is part of the agenda of the 10th assembly, noting that palliatives are from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, which is in respect to the Government’s concern for the masses.
We have two different phases; the first phase is here in Ikole, 2000 bags of rice, and the second phase will be happening in Oye, 1000 bags of rice. In addition to that, we are relatively distributing about 20 million naira. All stakeholders are here. Nobody is taking it by proxy. Various stakeholders are here by themselves. This goes a long way in deepening accountability and participatory governance, the Honourable explained
At the event which had almost forty different groups in attendance, the image-maker of the green Chamber said “we are trying as much as possible to make it participatory and encompassing of people of different tribes and faiths, adding that his electoral victory was the collective efforts of all.
At Oye-Ekiti, Hon. Akin Rotimi told the constituents that he decided to celebrate them specially this year by sharing rice and cash gifts to them as he promised that he would keep giving to them all that is due to them without having to rob them of any of their benefits for any reason.
Emphasising on how important it is for him to maintain his good name, Akin Rotimi explained that he’s not doing it with the aim of going for second term in the house but to sustain his good name. Adding that he would be much satisfied once he’s able to fulfill the mandate given to him by his people.
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Paul Omotoso, who commended the lawmaker’s gesture at this period of the year urged all other political office holders across the State to emulate what Honourable Akin Rotimi has done for his people which he described as a very good one.
Appreciating the gesture, the beneficiaries who couldn’t hide their feelings unanimously prayed for the lawmaker to receive grace to excel for him to be able to do more.
