A disturbing case of alleged assault and sexual harassment has rocked the Lagos legal community, as a prominent lawyer, Barrister Margaret Chukwunyelu-Ilo, speaks out against her landlord, 58-year-old Olumide Michael Ayodele.

The incident, which occurred on October 27, 2025, has led to Ayodele’s arrest and arraignment on multiple charges, including assault, malicious damage, and sexual harassment.
According to reports, Ayodele allegedly became violent after Chukwunyelu-Ilo rejected his sexual advances, tearing her clothes, beating her, and injuring her in the process, and damaging her property.
The charges against him include assault, removal of electricity supply, and sexual harassment, among others.
Ayodele has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail with two sureties. The case has sparked concerns about landlord-tenant relationships and the safety of women in Lagos.
The incident highlights the need for greater protections for tenants and more support for victims of harassment and assault.
As the case makes its way through the courts, it is likely to spark a wider conversation about power dynamics and accountability in Lagos.
