Lagos LG poll: Group buys N5m form for Speaker Obasa’s son

The group’s coordinator, Ismael Garba, made this known during a press conference on Thursday in Agege, Lagos. He explained that the move was aimed at supporting AbdulGaniyu’s ambition and promoting competent grassroots leadership.

“Our action is not for personal gains or to turn Agege into any politician’s private estate. Nigeria needs capable hands at the grassroots level for the change we desire, and that’s why we are backing AbdulGaniyu,” Garba said.

He noted that members of the group contributed the N5 million used to purchase the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form for AbdulGaniyu. Garba also revealed that seven councillorship aspirants under the same platform would receive free forms to join the team.

According to him, the group is working with other stakeholders to ensure a credible candidate emerges.

Garba described AbdulGaniyu as well-qualified, stating that he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Hertfordshire, a Master’s in the same field from Aston University, and is currently pursuing a PhD at Babcock University. He added that AbdulGaniyu has worked with PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Providus Bank, and Parallex Bank as Head of Performance Management and Strategy.

Addressing concerns over his father’s political influence, Garba said, “That his father is the Speaker should not stop Agege from benefiting from a capable leader.”

Meanwhile, the current chairman of Agege Local Government, Ganiyu Egunjobi, has declared his full support for AbdulGaniyu, saying he believes the young politician has the vision to lead the council forward.
