Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of schools in four local government areas following rising security threats in parts of the state.
The directive was communicated by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Kwara State branch, in a circular obtained by Channels Television, confirming that schools in Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Ekiti LGAs would be shut until further notice.

According to Yusuf Agboola, NUT Chairman in Kwara, the instruction came directly from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development after authorities flagged fresh security concerns in the southern part of the state.
The circular stated, “Comrade chairmen, this is to inform you and through you, all schools in the above local governments of the instruction to close down all schools with immediate effect until further notice.”
Agboola explained that the decision was necessary to protect students and staff amid worsening security challenges, emphasizing that school leaders should treat the information with urgency.
He assured teachers and principals that additional directives would be shared as the situation develops, underscoring the government’s commitment to safeguarding educational institutions and communities in affected areas.
The shutdown reflects growing concerns about safety in Kwara South and follows similar government measures in other parts of the country facing security threats.
