Kwankwaso, NNPP Consider Alliance Ahead of 2027 Polls

Reliable sources within the party disclosed that consultations are ongoing, with the NNPP considering possible alignment with either the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or the emerging coalition spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other key political figures, including Mallam Nasir el-Rufai.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that the NNPP is unlikely to go solo as it did in 2023. “Discussions are underway, and the options on the table include working with President Tinubu’s APC or joining the Atiku-led coalition,” the source said.

When contacted, the National Publicity Secretary of the NNPP, Mr. Ladipo Johnson, confirmed that strategic talks are ongoing. He explained that the party traditionally begins active political engagement at midterm, which falls on May 29, marking two years into the current administration.

“Yes, there are discussions going on. As I’ve said before, we usually wait until midterm before taking major political steps,” Johnson stated. “We’re in talks, but I won’t mention names or groups for now. When it’s time, we will communicate our decision to our supporters.”

Speaking further, he addressed reports linking Senator Kwankwaso to the APC, describing them as speculative. “There have been several reports suggesting that Senator Kwankwaso is set to join the APC. These are mostly political speculations being pushed by interested parties,” he said.

He added that the NNPP is currently weighing three major options. “We are considering whether to stay in the NNPP with those who have been with us, explore a coalition with Atiku and others, or possibly form an alliance with the APC. These are just options at the moment; no final decision has been made,” he clarified.

Political watchers are keenly observing the unfolding developments as the countdown to 2027 begins.
