The Nigeria Police Force has invited the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for questioning over events that took place during the recent Sallah celebrations in Kano.
According to a letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by Commissioner of Police, Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, the Emir is to appear at the Force Intelligence Department Headquarters in Abuja by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Security agencies had earlier banned all Durbar activities during the Eid festivities due to security concerns. However, Emir Sanusi reportedly led a Durbar-style procession and visited the Kano Government House. Although the procession was done in motorcades rather than the traditional horseback, it still drew a large crowd.
In a related development, a 20-year-old man, Usman Sagiru of Sharifai Quarters, was arrested for allegedly attacking vigilante members attached to the Emir’s convoy shortly after Eid prayers on March 30.
The police have also invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning over his alleged role in violating the security directive during the Sallah period.
