Tensions in the Middle East have taken a dangerous turn as Iran launched a massive ballistic missile attack on Israel in what it called “Operation True Promise 3.”
According to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the missiles were aimed at “dozens of military centres and airbases” across Israel, marking one of the most direct and large-scale confrontations between the two rival nations in recent times.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attacks, saying that central Israel—including Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv area—came under heavy rocket fire. Explosions and missile interceptions lit up the night sky, with air raid sirens forcing residents to run for shelter.
British broadcaster, BBC, reported chaotic scenes as loud blasts rocked major cities while people remained indoors in fear.
Emergency officials said at least five persons sustained injuries in Tel Aviv. One is in moderate condition while four others were reportedly hit by shrapnel. Paramedics and rescue teams have been deployed to at least seven impact sites in the Dan Bloc region.
While Iran is yet to release the full details of the operation, state media claimed two Israeli fighter jets were shot down over Iranian airspace. However, this claim has not been independently verified.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had earlier vowed to deliver “heavy blows” to Israel in response to what he described as an act of war.
In a statement, the Israeli military said its air defence systems were fully active and engaging the incoming missiles.
“The shooting continues. Another barrage of dozens of rockets was launched toward Israel,” the IDF said.
Residents in Jerusalem shared visuals of the attack with international media, describing the experience as a full-blown war scenario. Photos from Reuters showed bright flashes and thunderous blasts piercing the night.
The situation remains highly volatile, with concerns growing over the possibility of a wider regional conflict. Global leaders are closely monitoring the unfolding crisis, with calls already emerging for urgent international mediation.
