The newly crowned Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Tuesday declared that he has left active politics behind, stressing that his new role as monarch requires impartiality.
Ladoja stated this when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar led a delegation of African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftains to his private residence in Ibadan.
“I’m not one of you again. I am the Olubadan of Ibadanland. So, I am for everybody now. I am no more a politician,” Ladoja told his guests.
He recalled his long political association with Atiku and others from the era of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and later as founder of Accord Party in Oyo State.
“All the religious leaders have said that the only thing leaders can do is to promote justice and fairness. I will serve my people, Ibadan, Oyo State, Africa and the world at large. I will depend on your support and advice,” the monarch added.
Ladoja was crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland last Friday in a ceremony attended by President Bola Tinubu, governors, traditional rulers and political leaders.
