A group of traditional rulers from Ikole Local Government have petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, urging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the Ekiti North Senatorial seat to Ikole Local Government in the upcoming elections.
In a letter signed by 23 traditional rulers, the monarchs argued that Ikole Local Government has never produced a senator since 1999, despite being one of the largest local governments in Ekiti State and the second in terms of voters.

The traditional rulers noted that the senatorial seat has been occupied by representatives from other local governments in the district, including Moba, Oye, Ido/Osi, and Ilejemeje, and it is now Ikole’s turn to produce a senator.
The letter reads in part, “We, the undersigned Royal Fathers in Ikole Local Government, wish to express our sincere readiness to fill the senatorial seat of Ekiti North during this coming APC primary… Ikole Local Government is being the only local government in the district that has not produced a Senator despite its political relevance, population, and contribution to the development and politics of Ekiti State.”
The traditional rulers appealed to President Tinubu to consider Ikole Local Government’s claim to the senatorial seat, citing fairness, equity, and justice.
The letter is dated March 28, 2026, and is addressed to President Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
