IBADAN STAMPEDE: Prophetess Naomi’s Mother Speaks on Daughter’s Remand

In an emotional video, the distraught mother pleaded for her daughter’s release, asserting her innocence.

“My daughter has been organizing this program for over 10 years to help children. Please, the world, help free Naomi. She is very innocent,” she cried.

Court Proceedings

Prophetess Naomi, along with the owner of Agidigbo FM, Mr. Hamzat Oriyomi, and the Principal of the Islamic School in Bashorun, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, faces a four-count charge of conspiracy, causing death, negligence, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities.

The Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, ordered the accused to remain in prison custody until January 13, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Defense Arguments

Counsel for the accused sought to prevent their clients’ remand in prison, arguing for police custody instead. Ridwan Adekunle, representing Oriyomi Hamzat, highlighted a prior agreement to detain his client at the police station rather than in prison.

Similarly, the counsel for the school principal, Mr. Olajide, urged the court not to proceed with arraignment, citing insufficient grounds for the charges.

Investigation Ongoing

The Commissioner of Police filed the case (marked C/2024) after seven suspects were initially detained, with five later released.

The tragic event has left both Oriyomi and Prophetess Naomi hospitalized. Oriyomi disclosed he was in shock, while reports indicate that Naomi fainted during her time in police custody.

Governor Seyi Makinde has assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted, promising that all those found responsible will face justice.

The case continues to draw significant public attention, with calls for fairness and transparency in the legal process.
