The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, has reiterated his commitment to serving the people of the State.
The CP re-echoed this when paid a courtesy visit to the state secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ado Ekiti, the State capital.
Addressing journalists at the Secretariat, the Police boss said he has been enjoying the support of journalists in the State ever l since his assumption of office.
In his word, “what I have achieved so far is part of your support. I promise you that I am here to serve the people and not to do otherwise, because when you serve the people, posterity will always remember you for good.
“When I arrived Ekiti, the first people I visited were the religious leaders. I went to the Catholic Bishop and the Chief Imam to receive their blessings. I have visited some important people to pray for us because the world is more spiritual than physical.
“So when I received their blessings, I already had the intention of visiting the Journalists because I have been a friend of pressmen as a former Police Public Relations Officer of Abia State, I was always at the Press Centre to dine and wine with journalists. When we wine, we relax and we will be able to have more energy to do better. That’s the essence of wining.
“When you relax and interact with people, the brain will become fresher and you begin to think better for you to serve the community. By the time you have your ultra modern secretariat anytime I have chance, you will see me from time to time.
“When you work with us and we have better understanding, the job becomes easier. if you give the gap and you are not nearer to clear the information at your disposal, it can be misinterpreted. But if you are close, you will definitely be able to clarify, and by the time it is being reported, there will be objective reportage”. Adeniran explained.
Welcoming the CP and his entourage, the State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi appreciated the honour accorded the journalists for the visit.
Noting that over time, some people don’t respect the media but only fear them because of the power they have to either make or mar. The Chairman opined that journalists feel very honoured when they are given the respect they deserve.
He add that journalists usually offer selfless services which cannot be quantified with the services they are rendering for the society.
He assured the CP of continuous support of all journalists in the State having come with the good intention of ensuring that Ekiti takes it lead of one of the peaceful States in Nigeria which according to Babatuyi, has been demonstrated with the arrest of some suspects in connection with the abduction of school pupils and attacks on traditional rulers on assumption of office in the state.
The NUJ Chairman described such as a great feat on the part of the CP noting that to arrest a criminal is not an easy task.
