The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has alleged that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, is plotting his downfall despite his role in Ooni’s ascension to the throne.
Speaking in a video from a Ramadan lecture in Iwo, which his press secretary, Ibrahim Alli, confirmed, Oluwo claimed he played a key role in resolving a legal case that could have hindered Ooni’s appointment in 2015. He recounted how a mutual acquaintance, Akin Daodu, connected him with Oba Ogunwusi, leading to his intervention.
Oluwo alleged that after helping Ooni become king, the Ife monarch turned against him, influencing his suspension from the Osun State Council of Obas and working with some traditional rulers in Iwoland to destabilize his reign.
However, the Ooni’s palace, through its Director of Media, Chief Moses Olafare, dismissed Oluwo’s claims, stating that it was not the first time he would make such allegations and that Ooni had no interest in responding.
According to Olafare, Ooni is focused on developmental projects and has no time for distractions.
