How I Scaled Fence When Hoodlums Attacked my Palace –  Monarch

The incident occurred at about 1:00 am at the palace located on Plot 306, New Layout, Lokoja. The attackers set the monarch’s vehicle and other property ablaze, forcing him to scale the fence to save his life.

The attack disrupted the planned “Lokoja ’24 Nupe Cultural Fiesta,” an annual end-of-year event organized by the Nupe natives of Lokoja Development Union. Many Nupe natives who had arrived from neighboring states for the event were left in shock as the celebration was abruptly canceled.

Monarch Narrates Ordeal

Speaking on Monday, HRH Dauda-Shelika described the harrowing experience:

“It was around 1 am when I heard a loud bang on my door. As I looked through the window, I saw my car engulfed in flames. Realizing it was an attack, I could not risk stepping out through the front door. I managed to escape through the back door and scaled the fence to save my life.”

He added that neighbors attempted to extinguish the fire but could not save the vehicle or other valuables inside it.

The monarch disclosed that the event’s planning committee had concluded their meeting around 11:30 pm on Friday, only hours before the attack. He lamented the unfortunate disruption of the cultural celebration.

Call for Justice

HRH Dauda-Shelika urged the government and security agencies to investigate the attack, apprehend those responsible, and ensure justice is served. He also appealed to the Nupe community to remain peaceful and avoid retaliation.

“We appeal to His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, and the security agencies to investigate this incident thoroughly and bring all involved to justice. Let us allow the government and law enforcement to handle the situation,” he said.

The monarch further called for the official recognition and grading of the Etsu Lokoja stool, emphasizing its historical significance.

“Recognizing and grading the Etsu Lokoja stool, which predates colonization, will address many of these issues and bring lasting peace. We call on the government to take this step,” he added.

Authorities Silent

When our correspondent visited the scene, a police officer present declined to comment, stating he was not authorized to speak on the matter. Attempts to contact the state police command were unsuccessful, as the Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, did not respond to calls or messages.

The attack has drawn condemnation from community members and stakeholders, who demand swift action to restore peace and prevent future occurrences.
