In a collaborative effort to make healthcare accessible to his constituents, the Federal Lawmaker, representing Ekiti South Constituency1, at the Green Chamber, Hon. Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo (AVM Rtd), in conjunction with the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Ekiti State Chapter, has begun a free medical outreach programme.
At the flag-off of the programme held at Arinjale’s palace, Ise-Ekiti on Thursday, Hon. Ojuawo while welcoming the medical personnel, expressed his deep appreciation for their selfless services to humanity as he urged all participants to take full advantage of the thorough health checks and counselling services available, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the doctors’ advice, and prescriptions to get the best outcome.
‘I’m delighted that you’ve come out to assess your health status. Please ensure you follow the doctors’ guidance and prescriptions carefully. This programme is designed to support you, particularly the vulnerable, such as the elderly and pregnant women. We have additional special packages for expectant mothers.’
The primary goal of the outreach was to address and ameliorate the health challenges faced by indigent individuals who may be suffering from various ailments, some of which might be asymptomatic and go unnoticed without proper medical screening. Said he.
Hon. Ojuawo promised to take the outreach to other parts of the constituency, namely, Ikere and Ekiti South West Local Government Areas soon.
During the counselling session, one of the facilitators, Dr. Abioye Oladipupo stressed the critical importance of taking diet seriously to avoid becoming overly dependent on medication. ‘We must prioritize our diet,’ Dr. Oladidupo advised.
‘When we combine good nutrition with regular daily exercise, we can definitely live healthier lives.’ He further tasked all participants to regularly check their blood pressure and sugar levels to stay informed about their overall wellness and take proactive steps towards maintaining good health.
Commending Hon. Ojuawo for his purposeful leadership and partnership with the NMA to make the medical outreach possible, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Medical Outreach, Dr. Afolabi appealed to all participants to always follow up at the health centers closest to them and to regularly check their blood pressure as advised by the Lawmaker.
