Celebrity chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, on Friday officially began her attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
Baci, who rose to global fame in 2023 after setting the record for the longest cooking marathon, is hosting the historic event as part of the “Gino Jollof Festival”, in partnership with seasoning and culinary brand, Gino.
The centrepiece of the event is a custom-made pot measuring six metres wide and six metres tall, into which 250 bags of rice will be cooked.
Before the burners were lit, the Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre, Bolaji Idowu, prayed for Baci and blessed the effort.
The festival has drawn a huge crowd, including Gen Zs, millennials, food enthusiasts, and celebrities. Influencers such as Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Tomike Adeoye, Folagade Banks, and Veekee James were also on ground to show support.
According to the organisers, more than 20,000 people registered to attend the event, which is free and open to the public.
Baci has assured participants that the jollof rice will be both “amazing and hygienic,” promising a record-breaking culinary experience that showcases Nigerian cuisine.
