Gunmen Kill Sacked Irewole LG Chairman in Osun; Two Others Shot in LG Crisis

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants stormed the premises in broad daylight, firing multiple gunshots. “It was sudden and chaotic. People ran for safety,” a local resident said.

The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation had commenced. “We are making efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and restore calm,” said the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Yemisi Opalola.

Abass was among the local government chairmen elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) but was removed by a Federal High Court ruling in Osogbo in November 2022.

Two Feared Dead in Boripe LGA Violence

Meanwhile, two persons have been confirmed dead following a violent clash in Boripe Local Government Area. The unrest reportedly broke out when suspected hoodlums, allegedly linked to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC, attempted to seize control of the council.

Eyewitnesses identified the deceased as Ege and Igara, who were shot dead during the fracas. Ege, said to have recently defected from the APC to the PDP, was the only son of his parents, with his father also a PDP member.

Another victim, a photographer named Yinka, was also shot and is currently in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital. The violence has triggered panic in the area, with residents fleeing for safety.

Security agencies have been deployed to restore order.
