Grassroots Support: Ekiti Councillors Throw Weight Behind BAO for Second Term

The councillors gathered at a solidarity rally held at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti, where the endorsement motion was moved by Hon. Arogundade Babatunde, the Leader of the Ado-Ekiti Legislative Council, and jointly seconded by Hon. Ogunlana Segun from Ekiti West and Hon. Jogunola Tolani from Ido-Osi.

Speaking at the event, the councillors described their endorsement as a reflection of Governor Oyebanji’s outstanding performance in office, especially in areas of inclusive governance, grassroots engagement, and commitment to the sustainable development of Ekiti State.

According to them, the governor’s leadership has brought visible progress to communities across the state, hence the decision to give him full backing ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Inter-Party Affairs, in his remarks, commended the councillors for their unity and political awareness. He urged them to intensify mobilisation efforts at the grassroots level and ensure their constituents are ready for the forthcoming voters registration exercise.

“I appreciate you all. You are the real foot soldiers. We want you to go back to your wards and mobilise the people. Let us ensure the primary election is smooth and successful,” he said.

Also speaking, former APC Zonal Publicity Secretary and former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oladapo Karounwi, reminded the councillors of their responsibility as elected representatives.

“You carry the people’s mandate, just like the governor. The statewide endorsement is coming up on July 28. Voter registration will soon commence, and you must monitor the exercise closely in your wards,” Karounwi said.

He stressed the importance of increasing voter registration figures, saying, “The governor places high priority on this. Let us play by the rules and deliver a 100 percent victory during the party’s primary. Ekiti is solidly behind BAO.”

Among those present at the rally were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Niyi Adebayo; Special Adviser on Political Matters, High Chief Jide Awe; and the Director-General of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotosho.
