Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has urged caterers in the state to prioritize quality, hygiene and food safety regulations above financial gain in the interest of public health.

Governor Oyebanji made the call on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti during the Ekiti State Caterers’ Association Day and Workshop themed ‘Beyond the Plate’. He was represented by the Director-General, Bureau of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Omotosho.

The governor said the catering profession plays a critical role in the wellbeing of citizens and the image of the state, hence practitioners must uphold the highest standards.

“Make sure you put in your best because you never know who will taste that food tomorrow. As caterers, do not compromise on quality. The work of your hands is your identity and signature that will attract people to you,” he said.
He commended Ekiti caterers for their creativity and innovation, which he noted had made the profession more attractive and dignified.

“You have demonstrated experience and creativity. Make sure you leave a lasting impression and leverage social media to showcase your works,”he added.
Governor Oyebanji appreciated members of the association for their support during his re-election and assured them of sustained collaboration in his second term beginning in October 2026.

“I thank you for showing that there is dignity in labour. The innovation you have brought into catering is commendable. As a government, we appreciate the partnership and the massive support you gave to this administration. We will build on the relationship we had in the first term,”_ he stated.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for businesses, including catering and hospitality, to thrive.

Earlier in her welcome address, the President of the Ekiti State Caterers’ Association, Mrs. Stella Akinola, described the event as a “celebration of skill, sacrifice, sleepless nights, and the joy we serve, one plate at a time”.
She explained that the theme, ‘Beyond the Plate’, highlights the diligence, professionalism and problem-solving behind the catering business.
“Beyond the plate is the story behind every meal. It is the mother who wakes at 3am to prepare for 500 guests. It is the team that turns pressure into presentation. We are not just food vendors, we are experience curators, mood setters, logistics experts and storytellers,”_ she said.

Mrs. Akinola thanked partners, vendors and clients for valuing the craft “beyond the plate” and applauded members for their resilience and commitment to excellence.
The event attracted caterers, vendors, government officials and stakeholders from across the state.
