Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has described the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway embarked upon by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration as an eminent achievement with far-reaching implications for regional trade, tourism, and transportation.
The Governor stated this while commenting on the significance of the 700-750 kilometre federal infrastructure project, which runs from Lagos to Calabar throughOgun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States.

Governor Aiyedatiwa said President Tinubu’s experience and strategic grasp of governance have enabled the delivery of landmark projects across infrastructure, economy, education, and security.
“Of the many achievements of Mr. President, the coastal highway stands out. It is a masterstroke and an eminent achievement for President Tinubu, and it is going to provide a major economic boost for coastal states,” the Governor stated.
He noted that Ondo State accounts for approximately 40km of the highway and expressed appreciation to the President for the project and other reform-driven interventions in the state.
The Governor faulted arguments questioning the necessity of the project, stressing that public discourse should prioritize long-term socioeconomic impact over narrow cost considerations.
“We must consider the ultimate benefits of a project in the interest of citizens, and not just narrow narratives about cost or alternatives. The coastal highway will give an incremental boost to the country’s economy,” he said.
He added that the project aligns with Ondo State’s own infrastructure drive, citing the Akure Metropolitan Flyover as an example of deliberate investment to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and position the state capital for sustained urban expansion.
“That explains why we lay premium on critical projects in Ondo State. The Akure Flyover is not just a project for its own sake, but a strategic intervention to drive growth,”_ Governor Aiyedatiwa said.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with the Federal Government to maximize the benefits of national infrastructure projects for the people of Ondo State.
