President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate’s approval to remove the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for Abia, Adamawa, and Sokoto states.
In a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu noted that the affected INEC officials—Ike Uzochukwu (Abia), Hudu Yunusa-Ari (Adamawa), and Nura Ali (Sokoto)—were suspended over alleged misconduct during the 2023 general elections.
Reading the letter during Wednesday’s plenary, Akpabio quoted Tinubu as stating that the officials had been on suspension since March 2022, before his administration took office.
The president urged the Senate to act swiftly on the request, expressing confidence in their consideration.
