
President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Governing Council and Board of Trustees of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYREP).
A statement by Mr Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Monday in Abuja, said the Minister of Environment will serve as Chairman of the Governing Council.
Other members of the council include Mr Loanyie Barituka Victor, representing environmental NGOs; Mr Bright Onyebuchi Jacob and Mr Henry Obiabure, representing Niger Delta communities; Prof. Barinedum Michael Nwibere and Barr. Baride Abdul Gwezia, representing the Ogoni community.
The nine oil-producing states will be represented by Mr Gideon Onyebuwa Melfor and Dr Ibikunle Omotehinse.
Four alternate members were also appointed. They are Rev. Canon Dr Abraham Olungwe (reappointed) and Engr. Maeba Power Ekpobari for Ogoniland, and Mr Joseph Akedesuo and Mrs Beauty Warejuowei for the Niger Delta.
On the Board of Trustees, Mr Emmanuel Nwiika Deeyah was reappointed as Chairman. Other members include Mr Fred Mbombo Igwe and Dr Fred Barivule Kpakol for Ogoni communities and stakeholders; Mrs Dorcas Amos for other Niger Delta communities; and Chief Jide Damazio (reappointed) for environmental NGOs.
