It was a night of glory for Nollywood at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), which held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, as Femi Adebayo’s historical drama series Seven Doors stole the spotlight, winning two of the most prestigious categories—Best Lead Actor and Best Lead Actress.
Femi Adebayo himself clinched the award for Best Lead Actor, while Chioma Chukwuka emerged as Best Lead Actress for her role in the same production. Adebayo received the award on her behalf during the event.
Seven Doors is a Nigerian historical drama directed by Femi Adebayo, Adebayo Tijani, and Tope Adebayo. The story revolves around King Adedunjoye, a reluctant traditional ruler battling a generational curse. To break the curse, he must marry six more wives—opening “seven doors”—despite his love for his only wife, Amaka. The series touches on deep themes of culture, destiny, and sacrifice.
The colourful event, which took place in Lagos, gathered top stars and stakeholders in the African film and TV industry. It also paid tribute to industry legends Sani Mu’azu and Nkem Owoh with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Director Kayode Kasum was honoured with the Trailblazer Award for his creative innovation in filmmaking.
Another major winner was Lateef Adedimeji’s film Lisabi (The Uprising), which picked up multiple awards, further showing the strength of Nigerian storytelling.
