FULL LIST: FG Warns of 5 – Days Flooding in 39 Locations Across 16 States

The warning was contained in a statement from the National Flood Early Warning Centre, signed by the Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Bokani, on Saturday.

According to the centre, 39 locations across the affected states are at risk of flooding within the specified period.

The states and locations listed include Delta State (Asaba); Yobe State (Damaturu); Sokoto State (Isa); Zamfara State (Anka, Bungudu, Gusau, Kaura-Namoda, Maradun, Shinkafi); Katsina State (Jibia); Oyo State (Kisi, Oyo); Kebbi State (Ribah, Sakaba, Yelwa); Kano State (Gwarzo, Sumaila, Karaye); Niger State (Kontagora, Mashegu, Mokwa, New-Bussa, Rijau, Wushishi).

Others are Kwara State (Kosubosu); Benue State (Agaku, Buruku, Gboko, Katsina-Ala, Ugba); Borno State (Briyel); Bayelsa State (Brass, Ikpidiama, Odoni); Cross River State (Edor, Ikom); Rivers State (Itu, Ahoada); and Enugu State (Nsukka).

The ministry advised state governments, emergency agencies, and residents in the listed areas to take preventive measures and prepare for possible flooding to reduce damage and loss of lives.

It also called on stakeholders to intensify drainage clearance, relocate residents in flood-prone zones, and activate disaster response teams ahead of the anticipated rainfall.

As of September 20, no fewer than 232 persons had died, while 121,224 others were displaced in various parts of the country following previous flood incidents, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The 2025 Flood Dashboard further indicated that at least 339,658 people had been affected nationwide, with 681 persons sustaining injuries of varying degrees.
