The Foundation for Peace Professionals (PeacePro) has condemned the Uganda Police Force for deploying teargas at an opposition campaign rally, calling it a misuse of authority that threatens democratic space and civil liberties.
“Targeting opposition rallies with teargas blurs the line between law enforcement and political partisanship,” said Abdulrazaq Hamzat, PeacePro’s Executive Director.

He urged authorities to uphold human rights standards, ensuring police remain impartial and protect peaceful assembly, expression, and political participation.
PeacePro warned that excessive force against opposition risks heightening tension, provoking unrest, and eroding public trust in state institutions.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to peacebuilding and protecting civic space in Africa.
