The Federal Government has commenced the payment of the second tranche of the ₦35,000 wage award arrears to federal civil servants.
This was disclosed on Friday in a statement by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa.
According to the statement, the payment follows the earlier disbursement of one month out of the five-month arrears owed civil servants under the wage award arrangement.
“With the payment of the second tranche, three months of the ₦35,000 wage award arrears are now outstanding,” the statement noted.
The OAGF clarified that contrary to some reports, the Federal Government has not defaulted on its commitment to the wage award.
It assured that the remaining arrears would be paid in monthly instalments of ₦35,000 until the balance is cleared.
The wage award was introduced in 2023 as a temporary palliative to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, pending the implementation of a new national minimum wage.
