The Federal Government says it has disbursed over ₦300 billion to 8.1 million households across the country under the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) scheme.
The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, disclosed this during a roundtable to mark the 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction in Abuja.
Sununu said the intervention, carried out through the National Social Investment Agency, was part of the Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to build the resilience of vulnerable Nigerians.
“As of today, under the Conditional Cash Transfer, over 8.1 million households have been reached with more than ₦300 billion.
This has improved their capacity, health, and education, and the process will continue,” he said.
The minister also announced that the government would soon roll out an interest-free loan scheme worth ₦6.3 billion for 21,000 Nigerians affected by floods nationwide.
“We are planning, at both national and state levels, to strengthen our flood mitigation efforts by giving 21,000 Nigerians interest-free and collateral-free loans of ₦300,000 each,” he said.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at supporting farmers and mitigating the impact of flooding on food production.
Sununu further revealed plans to empower internally displaced persons (IDPs) through an agricultural programme that guarantees a ready market for their produce.
“We have designed a programme in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to address food security in IDP camps and host communities.
Under the arrangement, IDPs will retain 30 per cent of the produce, while the government will off-take 70 per cent and pay them the value as cash,” he explained.
The event also featured discussions on disaster risk financing, climate resilience, and social protection systems for vulnerable Nigerians.
