The Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, Prof. Gbenga Aribisala, has dismissed reports that the institution has started recruiting staff.
Aribisala said the university had neither accessed take-off funds nor secured the necessary approvals, adding that no recruitment, academic or non-academic, could begin until the National Universities Commission (NUC) cleared its programmes.
He made the clarification on Sunday at Ikoyi Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area, during a reception organised by 26 communities in honour of his appointment as the pioneer vice-chancellor.
The don urged members of the public, especially graduates from the host communities, to be patient, assuring that recruitment would follow due process.
“This is a federal university and we must follow federal character. We are committed to excellence to ensure quality training for the next generation. But as of today, recruitment has not started,” he said.
Aribisala disclosed that job adverts would be released before the end of September, noting that both academic and non-academic activities would commence immediately the NUC granted approval for the courses of study.
According to him, only qualified and experienced staff would be considered in the first phase of recruitment in line with the university’s vision to become a global standard institution.
He added that recruitment would be a continuous exercise, assuring that opportunities would expand as the institution stabilises.
