FBI, DEA Delay Release of Tinubu Records, Request 90-Day Extension

The delay stems from a 2023 FOIA lawsuit filed by U.S. transparency advocate Aaron Greenspan, seeking access to 1990s-era investigative records tied to a drug and money laundering case in Chicago allegedly linked to Tinubu and others.

In a joint status report filed May 1, the agencies said they needed more time to complete their searches for non-exempt, releasable records. Greenspan opposed the delay, calling it an unjustified extension after years of stalling and urging the court to enforce a faster timeline, noting some documents had already been identified.

Judge Beryl Howell had previously ordered the records’ release by May 2.

The court will now consider the extension request amid growing public scrutiny.
