Emure LG Chairman Signs Five Bills into Bye-Laws

The official signing took place on Monday, 4th August 2025, at the Council Secretariat in Emure-Ekiti. The event was witnessed by members of the legislative council, executive arm, and civil society organisations.

Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Oluwatosin described the newly signed laws as crucial to safeguarding lives and promoting social order in the local government.

The council boss praised the lawmakers for their commitment to community-centred legislation and encouraged continued collaboration for the development of Emure.

According to the Chairman, the five bye-laws include: Gender-Based Violence Prohibition Law, Prohibition of Vehicular Movement During Market Hours, Relocation of Monday Market to Obada Market, Protection of Female Children Against Sexual Harassment and Regulation of Land Sales, Allocation and Demarcation.

“These bye-laws are a bold step towards improving the lives of our people, especially women and children,” Hon. Oluwatosin said.

Also speaking, the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Bolaji Olatunji, said the passage of the GBV and child protection laws marks a milestone in the council’s efforts to safeguard vulnerable groups in the community.

He urged residents to familiarise themselves with the new laws and ensure compliance.

“With these laws in effect, any act against their provisions now constitutes an offence punishable under local government authority,” Hon. Olatunji said.

The ceremony had in attendance key officials including the Secretary to the Local Council Development Area, Hon. Alaba Yetunde; Majority Leader, Hon. Faweya Tinure Christianah; Chief Whip, Hon. Fakolade Tope; Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Adefemi Feyisayo; Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Adelere Tunde; Hon. Abegunde Dare; Hon. Bogunde Ayo; Hon. Ogunrinde Sunday; Legislative Liaison Officer, Mr. Osanyintuyi Ayo; and Mrs. Olorunda Oluwadamilola, a representative of the GBV Initiative, a gender rights advocacy organisation.

The local government reiterated its commitment to law enforcement and pledged to work closely with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation.
