
The elections into the Central Executive Council of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), have been successfully concluded. The keenly contested election produced a new set of leaders to pilot the affairs of the Union.
According to the official results released by the Directorate of Students’ Affairs, Sanya Ifeoluwa from the department of Science Laboratory Technology emerged as the President-elect, securing 1,053 votes to outshine five other contestants, while Dada Blessing Abosede from the department of Political Science was elected Vice President with 989 votes.
Similarly, Onu John polled 2,267 votes to emerge as the General Secretary-elect, while Odewale Emmanuel Ayoola won the position of Assistant General Secretary with 3,055 votes.
Duyilemi Stephen Adedeji clinched the position of Treasurer with 3,051 votes, Bello Dunsin Tosin became the Auditor with an equal tally of 3,051 votes and Sanni Emmanuel Oluwatobi recorded the highest total with 3,067 votes to emerge as Financial Secretary-elect.
For the other offices, Alao Sodiq Abiodun emerged as Director of Socials with 3,058 votes, Obanla Joseph secured the role of Public Relations Officer with 2,142 votes, and Oguntoye Olamilekan Abiodun was elected Director of Sports with 3,074 votes.
Adeagbo Jumoke emerged victorious as the welfare officer with 1,580 votes, promising to champion student-friendly initiatives.
Speaking after the announcement of results, the Vice- Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olufemi Adeoluwa, congratulated the winners and commended the students for the peaceful conduct of the election, urging the newly elected executives to see their victory as a call to service rather than an opportunity for self-interest.
Prof. Adeoluwa remarked that leadership is a sacred trust that comes with huge sacrifices and admonished them to be magnanimous in victory by extending hands of fellowship to other contestants and work in unity to advance the collective interest of BOUESTI students.
He assured that the University Management will continue to prioritise the welfare of students while also supporting Students’ Union in promoting the culture of reasonable leadership and positive engagement.
The newly elected executives are expected to be sworn-in soon, with students expressing high expectations for impactful leadership and representation in the months ahead.
