The Ekiti State Government has, appealed to drivers and commercial motorcycle operators (Okada riders) to caution their members against unnecessary movement during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

The Commissioner for Environment, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, while monitoring the July edition of the state environmental sanitation exercise in Ado-Ekiti, said the indiscriminate activities of some union members have continued to disrupt the smooth operations of sanitation enforcement teams.

She emphasized the need for cooperation from all quarters to avoid similar occurrences in the future and called on union leaders to work with the government in upholding sanitation laws.

She condemned any form of obstruction and urged union leaders to support the government’s efforts in promoting a clean and healthy environment.
“The Governor has invested heavily in ensuring that Ekiti remains clean and healthy. We need the support and cooperation of all residents, especially transport operators, to achieve this goal,” she said.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Tunde Balogun, stressed the importance of collective responsibility in environmental management. He assured that the government would continue to engage with transport unions to foster better understanding and compliance.

Ninety sanitation defaulters were apprehended during the exercise and were prosecuted in accordance with environmental laws.
