Ekiti To Celebrate World Environment Day

Ekiti State, in her  bid to join the global community in celebrating the World Environment Day, the state government has unveiled its plan at making the event worthwhile.

According to a press statement from the Permanent Secretary (PS), Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Babatunde Alokan, the year 2023 World Environment Day would serve as a reminder that individual actions towards plastic pollution matter, stressing the

need to dispose plastic waste properly.

The release stated further that the Day is celebrated on 5th June every year with more than 143 countries participating in the celebration.

The World Environment Day is a forum for public outreach on a worldwide scale, which offers a theme and a stage each year for governments, NGOs and communities for the promotion of environmental causes.

The theme for 2023 celebration is “Solution to Plastic Pollution”.

The PS, in the statement said that there would be awareness campaign

on plastic and nylon picking to be led by the State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji.

According to the press statement, the awareness campaign will kick-start by 7:30 am from Post Office area through Atikankan-Ijigbo Roundabout to Fajuyi pavilion in Ado Ekiti.

The release therefore enjoined all stakeholders to converge at Post Office junction about by 7:00am on Monday, 5th June, 2023.
