The Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the purported State Congress reportedly held at NTS, Ado Ekiti, as illegal, unwarranted and an exercise in futility.
The party stated that the so-called congress lacks the approval and authorization of the National Executive Committee of the party and therefore cannot stand.
We hereby urge all officers of the party at the Local Government and Ward levels, the entire members of the party, and indeed the general public to disregard and ignore the Fayose-led suspension congress in Ekiti State, as it has no constitutional backing.
The PDP also wishes to make it clear that no individual, regardless of past status or position in the party, has the power to dissolve or replace duly constituted Ward, Local Government, or State Executives before the expiration of their tenure.
It should also be noted that the Ward, Local Government and State Congresses in Ekiti State were duly conducted before the suspension and factionalisation within the National Executives of the party.
Furthermore, the Court of Appeal affirmed the leadership of Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum while upholding the suspension affecting the executive faction led by Samuel Anyanwu.
“The constitution of our great party is very clear. Any attempt to organise parallel congresses or impose structures outside constitutional procedures is illegal, null and void.”
Consequently, any caretaker arrangement or structure purportedly emanating from such unconstitutional processes remains null and void.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Executive Committee of the Ekiti State PDP led by Rt. Hon. Tunji Odeyemi remains the authentic leadership of the party in the state as recognised by law.
While reaffirming our commitment to peace and unity within the party, we implore any aggrieved individuals, members or groups to embrace dialogue and come to the roundtable to collectively chart a way forward for the success of the party in the forthcoming governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026.
Our desire for peace should not be misconstrued, but rather understood as a sincere commitment towards the unity, salvation and eventual victory of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
