Ekiti NUJ Names Hall After Renowned Journalist, Akogun Tai Oguntayo

This decision was arrived at during the March edition of its monthly congress as the motion was moved and unanimously supported by all at the Congress.The State Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi gave the outstanding performance of Akogun Tai Oguntayo as the reason behind this decision.

According to Comrade Babatuyi, it was during the regime of Akogun Tai Oguntayo that the present Press Centre and two fully air-conditioned buses were secured for the union. He lauded Oguntayo for his selfless services during his tenure as the State Chairman before he was appointed the Special Assistant, Media to the governor immediately after leaving the office.

This honour by journalists in the State came barely a month after the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) which Akogun Tai Oguntayo served as pioneer Chairman, organized a special reading to commemorate his birthday in Ado Ekiti.

COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MARCH CONGRESS OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS (NUJ) EKITI STATE COUNCIL HELD ON 27TH MARCH, 2024

After extensive deliberation on various issues of concern, the Council resolved as follows;

That the Hall at NUJ Press Centre, Old Governor’s Office, Ado Ekiti be named after one of its former chairmen, Akogun Tai Oguntayo in recognition of his contributions to the growth of the Council.

Commended the Federal Government for approving the construction of  Ado- Ikare – Akoko Road which will enhance transportation of people and goods.

Commended the Ekiti State Government for the gradual but consistent defrayment of gratuities of pensioners urging him to sustain the tempo.

Hailed the Nigerian contingent for their sterling performances at the just concluded African Games held in Ghana.

Urged traders and manufacturers to reduce prices of goods and commodities  in reflection of the Naira’s appreciation against the Dollar. Congress expressed worry that even the prices of locally produced goods are tied to Dollar thus compounding the hardship on the people.

The Congress commiserated with the Federal Government and the families of the soldiers who were gruesomely murdered while on a national duty in Delta State.
