The leadership of Nigerian Medical Association, Ekiti State Branch under the watch of Dr. Oreyemi Ifedayo, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his good office to fast track economic recovery that would have direct impact on the living standard of Nigerians.
This was contained in a communique jointly signed by the Chairman, Dr. Oreyemi Ifedayo and the Secretary, Dr. Akinluyi Oluwatobi at the end of the 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association, held at Doctors’ House, Ado-Ekiti from 4th August to 9th August, 2024 with the theme: “The Burden of Sudden Death among the Young; What to Learn and Unlearn”, The Sub Theme, “Assault Against Health Workers: A Menace That Must End”.
Identifying with Nigerians on the current economic hardship occasioned by the tough but necessary economic policies of the President, the NMA commiserates with the families of those who lost their lives in the scheduled nationwide protests which commenced on 1st August, 2024 in response to the economic policies of the federal government and prayed that the souls of the departed rest in peace.
As part of the resolutions of the AGM, the Association called on the Federal Government to urgently take steps to address the agitations of the protesters of the economic policies of the government to improve the living conditions of the suffering Nigerians.
It equally called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency review the palliative policies for the teeming Nigerians to feel the impacts of such interventions. Just as it also urged the general public to engage in regular check-ups and compliance with medical instructions to avert sudden death in Nigeria.
However, the NMA in Ekiti under its current leadership has applauded the State Governor, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers in the State which the Chairman, Dr. Oreyemi said has been demonstrated in various programmes and interventions which cut across various strata of Ekiti people.
As Ekiti State has become one of the sought out state for Medical Doctors in Nigeria, the Association appealed to the Governor to approve payment of 2024 MRTF to EKSUTH Resident Doctors including study leave to the Doctors in Hospital Management Board (HMB).
The AGM also urged the state government to continue to prioritize security to stamp out criminals totally from the state.
