Ekiti Govt Assures Of Non-Interference In Council Funds

Ekiti State Commissioner  for Local Government Affairs, Chief Folorunso Olabode has again restated the commitment of the Governor Biodun Oyebanji administration towards allowing councils in the state to utilize their funds without any form of interference.

Chief Olabode stated this while playing host to members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy  Affairs that were on a working visit to his office in Ado Ekiti.

The local government affairs commissioner said the government is committed to evenly develop the grassroots and added that this can only be achieved if resources are well and transparently utilized.

He advised council administrators to fully utilize the procurement law as a way to ensure transparency in financial dealings of the councils.

According to him, transparency and financial discipline would ensure the deliverance of the dividend of democracy that we all yearn for at the grassroots.

He praised the State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji for giving the councils the needed support to thrive in the state since assumption of office, and promised that the Ministry would always strive to achieve the identified vision of the government at ensuring the overall development of our councils.

In her remarks, the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaja Mariam Ogunlade promised synergy between the Assembly and the Executive arm of government towards ensuring an overall development of the grassroots in Ekiti State.

The lawmaker advised the Ministry to see the House of Assembly as partners in progress, adding that the House would not shirk in its responsibilities as enshrined in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
