Ekiti Assembly Passes 2025 Appropriation Bill Into Law      … As Lawmakers Commence End of Year Break

Considering the Budget estimates, tagged. “Budget of Sustainable Impact”which was presented to the House of Assembly by the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on Tuesday 29th October, 2024.

The speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye commended the Governor for presenting an encompassing appropriation bill which would take care of the yearnings of Ekiti residents at this period of economic hardship in Nigeria.

Rt. Hon. Aribasoye equally thanked the members of the 7th Assembly for doing a thorough job on the estimate through interface and feedback mechanism from the policy executors which were Ministries,  Departments and Agencies. He was so elated for the job well done by the committee on Finance and Appropriation chaired by the lawmaker representing Gbonyin/Ayekiire Constituency, Hon. Adeteju Okuyiga for scrutinizing the reports of sub-other committees of the house on the budget defense.

The speaker, also doubles as Chairman, Finance and Supplies reiterated the processes adopted by the Committee on Finance and Appropriation through public hearing which enabled the major stakeholders to make their impact and  contributions to ensure that the appropriation bill becomes achievable in the coming year.

According to Rt Hon Adeoye Stephen Aribasoye, the appropriation bill would take effect from 1st January, 2025 and run till 31st Dec, 2025 adding that it shall be cited as 2025 Appropriation law, noting that 2025 Budget would be finance, through Opening Balance (Transfer from prior Fiscal year) Statutory Allocation (FAAC), Value Added Tax(VAT) Independent Revenue and Capital receipts.

“With the passage into law of this appropriation bill of Three Hundred and Seventy Five Billion, Seven Hundred and Ninety Million, Seventy Seven Thousand, Six Hundred and Eighteen naira, fifteen kobo (#375,790,077,618.15) comparing to year 2024 budget of One Hundred and Fifty Nine Billion, Five Hundred and Seventy Two Million, Four Hundred and Eight One Thousand, Nine Hundred and Fifteen Naira, Sixty One Kobo (#159,572,481,915,61k) which is triple of the outgoing year budget.

Earlier at the plenary session, under the matters of urgent public importance, the lawmaker representing Ise/Orun Constituency,: Hon. Babatunde Omotayo drew the attention of the House to the damage done by some unscrupulous individuals in his constituency in Ise/Orun and the vandalization of Transformer in which some valuable parts of it  have been carted away which he said has brought a total darkness to the whole local government.

Also, the Speaker Rt Hon. Aribasoye corroborated the issue raised by Ise/Orun Lawmaker Hon. Babatunde Omotayo by making reference to similar occurrence in his hometown, Odo Ayedun Ekiti.

The house therefore called on landlords and heads of the Community in various Towns and Villages to adopt security measure to curb the menace of the hoodlums in the state.

Meanwhile, a motion on the need to recognize and legalise Peace Corps Security Outfit to make them functional in Ekiti State was also moved by a lawmaker representing Ise/Orun constituency and seconded by the Lawmaker representing Emure Constituency Hon. Alhaja Maryam Ogunlade.

The report of committee on Education, Science and Technology on Ekiti State Senior Secondary School Board Bill 2024 was read by the Chairman House Committee on Education, Science and Technology Hon. Jacob Adeyemi Awoniyi, the lawmaker representing Moba Constituency II, and was adopted and slated for another allotted day for debate.

The House adjourned till the end of third week in January 2025.
