Military investigators are collaborating with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit to trace the financial transactions connected to suspects accused of funding the alleged attempted coup against the Federal Government.
Reliable security sources disclosed that the anti-graft agencies are conducting a forensic examination of the bank accounts of the military officers and civilians under investigation. The analysis is said to include deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and other financial activities to determine the origin and flow of funds.
Findings indicate that some bank accounts linked to the suspects may have been frozen as part of standard investigation procedures.
The probe, it was learnt, has been expanded to include the business partners and associates of the key suspects, following reports that about N45 billion was transferred from the Niger Delta Development Commission to individuals allegedly involved in the plot.
A senior military officer confirmed that the EFCC and NFIU were brought in to track the financial trail and determine the true sources of funding for the alleged conspiracy.
Officials of the EFCC and NFIU could not be reached for comments on Thursday.
