EFCC Declares Abuja Socialite Aisha Achimugu Wanted for Money Laundering

In a notice published on its official social media pages on Friday, March 28, 2025, the anti-graft agency called on the public to assist in locating Achimugu, who is reportedly on the run. The statement, signed by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, read:

“The public is hereby notified that Aisha Sulaiman Achimugu, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy and money laundering. Achimugu, 51, is an indigene of Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, and her last known address is 6C, Rudolf Close, Maitama, Abuja.”

The commission urged anyone with relevant information to contact any EFCC office across the country, the nearest police station, or other security agencies. It also provided a helpline (08093322644) and an email address (info@efcc.gov.ng) for anonymous tips.

EFCC’s Investigation and Alleged Flight

Achimugu was invited for interrogation by the EFCC over a corruption case under investigation. According to a letter dated March 4, 2025, signed by Adebayo Adeniyi, the acting zonal director of EFCC’s Port Harcourt office, the commission sought clarifications from her regarding certain financial transactions.

“This commission is currently investigating a case in which the need to obtain certain clarification from you becomes imperative,” the letter stated.

She was expected to appear before EFCC investigators on March 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM, but reportedly failed to do so. There are indications that she fled the country, prompting EFCC to obtain a court warrant to declare her wanted.

Aisha Achimugu’s Lavish Lifestyle

Aisha Achimugu gained media attention in January 2024, when she hosted a seven-day luxury birthday celebration for her 50th birthday. The extravagant event took place at Calivigny Island and Silversands in Grenada, as well as in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The event, which ran from January 16 to 23, 2024, featured performances by top Nigerian artists, including Flavour, Adekunle Gold, Waje, and Asake. Guests were treated to exclusive experiences across different locations, solidifying her reputation as a high-profile socialite.

Achimugu was married to Sulaiman Achimugu, a former Managing Director of the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Limited (PPMC), who passed away in 2020 due to COVID-19 complications.

Next Steps

The EFCC has assured that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that Achimugu is brought to justice. The agency has called on Interpol and other international security agencies to assist in tracking her down if she is outside Nigeria.
