
In response to the recent tragic killings of 16 travellers, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has led a delegation to Kano State to condole with the government and the victims’ families.
The Edo governor was received at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport by the Kano State Deputy Governor before proceeding to a meeting with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The delegation is also expected to visit the families of the slain hunters in Bunkure, Rano, and Kibiya local government areas in Kano State.
The visit follows the recent killings of 16 local hunters in the affected areas, which have raised concerns over security challenges in the region.
Earlier, the Kano State Government expressed deep sorrow over the killing of its indigenes in Edo State and called for calm while sending a high-powered delegation to engage with the Edo State Government over the tragic incident.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Kano State Government condemned the attack and vowed to ensure justice for the victims.
“This unfortunate incident has caused great concern to the government and the good people of Kano State. We will not relent until justice is served,” Waiya said.
The victims, who were travelling from Port Harcourt to Uromi in Edo State, were reportedly attacked under unclear circumstances.
To ensure justice for the affected individuals and their families, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the immediate dispatch of a high-level delegation to Edo State.
The delegation will meet with Edo State authorities and security agencies to identify the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice.
Additionally, they will engage with the leadership of the Hausa community in Edo State to discuss the situation and offer recommendations on the way forward.
“The affected individuals, who were on a legitimate journey, deserve justice. The Kano State Government is committed to ensuring that their rights are protected,” Governor Yusuf stated.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has urged residents to remain calm and avoid actions that could escalate tensions.
It assured the public that all necessary diplomatic and legal measures are being pursued to address the situation adequately.
The government extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for the peaceful repose of their souls.
“We stand with the families of the victims in this difficult time and will continue to work closely with relevant authorities to ensure that such tragedies do not occur again,” the statement added.
