Germany is currently facing a shortage of workers in over 70 different fields, prompting the country to open its doors to skilled foreign professionals, according to the European Labour Authority (ELA).
The demand for skilled workers spans multiple sectors, such as transportation, healthcare, construction, and IT, which increases the chances of obtaining work visas for those with expertise in these areas.
According to the European Labour Authority’s 2023 Report on Shortages and Surpluses, the top 10 professions in Germany currently experiencing worker shortages include:
- Nurses and healthcare professionals
- IT specialists and software developers
- Engineers (mechanical, electrical, and civil)
- Skilled construction workers
- Truck and heavy vehicle drivers
- Skilled trade workers (plumbers, electricians, carpenters)
- Medical doctors and specialists
- Caregivers and support staff
- Teachers and educators
- Hospitality workers (chefs, cooks, hotel staff)
