The celebration, which took place in his hometown, Ilawe-Ekiti in Ekiti South West Local Government of Ekiti State, attracted stakeholders from various political parties, friends, family members, and well-wishers as they all came together to support the cause.

Speaking with journalists, Hon. Ben Akinola, expressed that the initiative is part of his civic responsibilities to assist the government in delivering the dividends of democracy at the grassroots.

He stated that he selected no fewer than sixty PWDs from the local government to join in the celebration, emphasizing that such gestures have always brought him joy, adding that the event aimed at uplifting the vulnerable members of the community, making them feel loved and supported.

His words, “I have always sought unique ways to celebrate my birthday. In previous years, I visited orphanages to celebrate with children. This year, I chose to celebrate with PWDs to encourage and support them.

“This is also a way to support the government, as it cannot do everything alone. Those of us on appointments should contribute to our communities to enhance the government’s reputation. I am doing this out of compassion.”

Raphael Anjorin, a former chairman of the Labour Party in Ilawe-Ekiti, commended Prince Akinola for prioritizing the welfare of PWDs, calling his actions a testament to his commitment to the community, while urging others to emulate the gestures.

“I am very pleased with what Hon. Ben is doing today. He is not a selfish person; he consistently supports his community. I encourage others to emulate his lifestyle and remain loyal to their principals,” Anjorin stated.

In his response, the Coordinator of PWDs in Ekiti South West, Afeni Thomas, hailed Hon. Akinola for making a significant difference among public office holders, noting that Akinola’s actions demonstrate his commitment to the welfare of PWDs.

“I am grateful that this programme is taking place. While some people overlook PWDs, Prince Ben is different, and I am very happy about that. We thank God for today, and for remembering us. May God continue to remember him as well,” Thomas said.

Also, Elizabeth Olaiya described Prince Ben as an invaluable figure in both politics and his community, highlighting the significant impacts he has made.

She thereby prayed for his continued prosperity and the goodwill to sustain his charitable efforts.

Other highlight of the event was the presentation of cash gifts and food items to the vulnerable.
