Popular Nigerian singer, Davido, has apologised to the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Umar Abba, after publicly criticizing him over the political crisis in the state.
Davido had earlier called out the commissioner, urging him to respect the rule of law and warning him not to “try” him. However, in a statement posted on X, the music star admitted that his emotions got the better of him due to the tragic loss of lives.
He acknowledged the commissioner’s commitment to maintaining peace and commended security agencies for their efforts in handling the crisis.
“In memory of the innocent souls lost, human emotions overwhelmed me and many of my friends. We did not realise the Commissioner of Police had been working tirelessly with other commanders. This was an oversight on my part, and I now acknowledge and appreciate his efforts in ensuring law and order in Osun State,” Davido wrote.
He further stated that his initial reaction was driven by anger over the bloodshed but now recognises that security agencies did their best to manage the situation.
His apology marks a shift from his earlier stance as he now appreciates the role of law enforcement in handling the political tensions in Osun State.
